WIND FARM BETWEEN LINTON AND GREAT CHESTERFORD

LATEST NEWS

Uttlesford District Council are now also being consulted by Enertrag UK regarding this proposal. If you wish to contact the planning department for further information, please quote reference no UTT/1631/07/SO

BLIMP PHOTOS
The Stop Linton Wind Farm Action Group recently flew a blimp at 125m in order to give residents an idea of the height of the proposed turbines. Photographs of the blimp were taken from various locations and these can be viewed via their website:

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

By now you should have received a copy of the document, produced by Enertrag UK Limited, regarding the proposed wind farm between Linton and Great Chesterford.

In order to gain an understanding of the size of the turbines, at 125 metres high they are more than twice
the height of the electricity pylons nearby, and the blades on each turbine will sweep out an area the size of
a football pitch in the sky. Visually the wind farm could have an impact up to 10km. As such it will be a significant development in the area.

As yet no planning application has been submitted as Enertrag are, together with South Cambridgeshire District Council, in the process of defining the content of the Environmental Impact Assessment to submit with the planning application. Currently it looks as if the planning application will be submitted in the autumn. To help support the process Enertrag are to hold two exhibition days in Linton Village Hall on:

                         1. Thursday 19th July 2007, 3pm - 8pm
                         2. Thursday 25th September 2007, 3pm - 8pm

It is important that as many people as possible attend the exhibition since a number of Great Chesterford residents live close to the proposed site and many more will look out at the turbines. In addition to studying the Enertrag proposal, and to arrive at a balanced view of this development, residents may wish to consider the issues raised with South Cambridgeshire District Council when they turned down an application for a similar development at Wadlow Farm. This would have affected Balsham, West Wratting, Six Mile Bottom, Great Wilbraham, Brinkley and Fulbourn, and the Stop Wadlow Wind Farm website – www.stop-wadlow-wind-farm.org.uk  provides greater detail on the points these villages considered important. In addition there are a number of research papers available on the internet that consider the potential harmful effects of wind farms, particularly in relation to low frequency noise.

A Stop Linton Wind Farm action group has been formed, their website is to be found at www.stoplwf.org.uk and a link to this will be included on our own village website. In due course we believe that paper copies of this site will be made available to all residents, and the Parish Council will be setting up an information page on the village website in order to keep residents aware of the latest developments.
